What motivates scientists?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(My objective in this article is not to go into the philosophy of science but take a simplistic view for a lay audience)<\/p>\n<p>What is science?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a method of systematic thinking, and creating new and improved understanding, a method of pursuing knowledge?<\/li>\n<li>a body of systematically accumulated knowledge?<\/li>\n<li>a community of people ?<\/li>\n<li>all of the above?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Characteristics of scientific pursuits and scientists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Curiosity to explore, understand and explain<\/li>\n<li>Desire to add to the body of scientific knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Accurate, truthful and unbiased descriptions, statement of facts; measured words<\/li>\n<li>Continuously improving and changing theories and models.\u00a0 All theories need to be testable.<\/li>\n<li>No authority.
